What would Nancy Drew do?

Last night before I went to bed my oldest asked me to wash an outfit for her to wear to school today. Today is her 11th birthday. It was late and I was on my way to bed. No shot at doing wash. She played the "it's going to be my birthday!" card. No sale. She was mad, I was mad. We were both tired and mad. She has been told on more than one occasion that she needs to get her laundry to me before 10 pm. Seriously. I don't stay up all night washing clothes. I tried offering up a few other outfits. No sale. She's 11. Need I say more? I stuck to my guns.

Anywhoo...I got up early and made her this shirt. I've been working on the design for a few weeks. I'm neurotic. I've been moving the text around, changing the font styles. I wanted the "Nancy Drew" to look like Nancy's signature. Had to find the right color shirt, the right color thread. It was down to the wire this morning. Nothing like a self imposed deadline to end the endless indecision. I pulled out a pair of shorts that we bought for her and wrapped them up with the shirt. I gave them to her when she woke up. She was squealing with excitement. She wore the outfit to school and was grinning from ear to ear.

She LOVES Nancy Drew. She can polish off a ND book in one night. She's almost done with the classic collection and enjoys reading the books a second and third time. A friend of mine was kind enough to give her 40-50 of her ND books that she had when she was a little girl. What a treasure. So all is well with the birthday girl.
Shirt: $3
ND design: $0
Making up with the birthday girl: priceless

  4. LOVE that shirt. And Nancy Drew! We had the originals at our fingertips at my grandma's house along with the Hardy Boys and the Bobsey Twins.

  5. Love the shirt and the books. My daughter read them all, starting with those early readers. What kind of sewing machine did you use for the embroidery? I'm sure this will be a birthday your daughter will always remember.
